أفاد مساعد وزير المشتريات والمعدات بالجيش الأميركي دوجلاس بوش، بأن أنظمة الدفاع الجوي الأميركية من طراز “باتريوت” قد تبدأ العمل في أوكرانيا قريبا جدا.
وفي وقت سابق من شباط، قالت نائبة وزير الدفاع الأوكراني آنا ماليار، إن الجيش الأوكراني سيستقبل قريبا أنظمة الدفاع الجوي “باتريوت” وSAMP / T، القادرة على اعتراض الصواريخ الباليستية.
وفي كانون الأول، أعلنت الولايات المتحدة تخصيص أول بطارية “باتريوت” إلى أوكرانيا، والتي سيتم تسليمها في الأشهر القليلة المقبلة، وفي وقت لاحق، أكدت ألمانيا وهولندا نقل منظومات “باتريوت” إلى كييف.
